Custom Longarm Machine Quilting

One of my clients made this for one of the men in her life (I can't remember if it was for a son, or a grandson). Isn't it so fun? Originally we had talked about doing just an all-over nautical themed design, but the more I got looking at it, the more I knew it needed something a bit more custom. So I called her up and asked her if she was okay with that. She was. *insert giddy giggle here - seriously, it made my day!*

So, in the sashing borders I did loops. I stitched in the ditch around the boats. and in the outer borders I did swirls, a loose figure 8, and waves.
In the block background I quilted lines to look like wind behind the sails, and swirls to look like water under the boat. Then, I quilted a wood grain on the boat and mast.
The boat above is my favorite, but I love this one too. It's just so cute and simple and I love the shape of the sail.
Here's a closer look at the border designs. I used red thread everywhere except in the block backgrounds where I used a blue thread (which was fittingly called Out of the Blue).
