Delicious Wishes

My sister-in-law is Jana is the fabulous fabric designer behind this beautiful fabric. This is the free quilt pattern offered through Henry Glass Fabrics with the fabric collection. When she got her fabric in October, it was days before she left for Quilt Market in Houston. Between the two of us we busted out a TON of stuff for her to take to Quilt Market for her Schoolhouse.

Here's the quilt Jana made. It is so darling! She did such a great job designing the blocks (and the fabric).

I tried to quilt each block like they were candy. I outline quilted the fussy cut pieces and quilted loops in the border around them.

I whipped up this fun birthday banner while Jana pieced the quilt. It turned out so stinking cute in her fabric!

I echo quilted the cake with some details in the layers and embellishments.

Here's a slightly awkward angle of the whole banner. Cute, right?!

And here's a quick pic of the top of the banner. I bought the cutest - well, I'm not sure what it is....ribbon? It isn't ric-rac. It's kind of lacy on one edge. Anyway, I thought it would look great as the embellishment on the cupcakes. I quilted back and forth lines in the cupcake wrappers to make them look more like wrappers.

I used a neutral colored thread - either a light yellow or a white (I can't remember).

We also whipped up a darling ruffled pillow and Jana made some metal frame purses and a little outfit for my baby girl to wear on her first birthday (I should've taken pictures of the outfit on the baby, but I completely forgot. But I did get some video with the video camera, so that covers me, right?)

Anyway, Delicious Wishes is available now! Go to your local quilt shop and see if they have it in stock, I know mine does!

Granny Squares Quilt

One of my good friends sent me this quilt top to quilt for her. I absolutely love this quilt top, and I have determined to make one for myself (someday).

I used white thread and quilted an all-over floral pattern.

This picture is of the quilt back. Oh my gosh, isn't it beautiful? I believe some of the fabric she used is by Bari J.

 GORGEOUS!

Flower quilt

I am kicking myself for not taking more pictures of this adorable quilt. It was so fun! I quilted the blocks like flowers, with a meander in the background. Then I quilted leaves and vines in the sashing and the outer border. I did a large squiggle in the inner border.

Square Pops of Color

I quilted this fun quilt for one of my clients last year. My client wanted a looser, over-all pattern, but something fun and girly too.

I quilted an all-over floral design. Here's a close-up of the quilting. I used white thread.

And because I love looking at the quilting on the quilt backs, here's a shot of the back. You can see how the flowers appear to overlap each other. This pattern can be done much tighter, or looser. I think I like it both ways! It's definitely fun and girly!

Sunflower Quilt

A client brought me this quilt she made. She wanted something fun quilted on it. In the background behind the sunflower I quilted close together back and forth lines. In the outer border I quilted feathers, and in the inner border I quilted loops.

In each of the star blocks down the left side I quilted feathers in the background and the center of the star block.

I quilted inside each of the petals and a large swirl in the center of the sunflower.

And in the blocks down the right side I quilted back and forth lines in the background, stitched-in-the-ditch around the churn dash, and quilted a flower in the center of the blocks.

I quilted this last fall, so I'm not 100% sure of what color thread I used, but I believe it was So Fine! Ginger (Superior Threads). It turned out really fun and I had a great time quilting it!

Purple Chain Quilt

So I'm participating in the Purple Chain Quilt thingy.

Have you heard of it before?

If not, here's the deets:

"Please send two (2) 6-inch squares of purple fabric to the first person on the address list. It can be plaid, checkered, print, or solid – try to pick fabrics that you would be happy receiving! The only restriction is that it must be 100% cotton!

Next, update the address list. Rewrite the list, but remove the first name and address (the one you just sent the fabric to) and add your name and address below the last address on the list. Then, make four (4) copies of this letter and the list of addresses and send them to four (4) different quilting or sewing friends along with two (2) 6-inch squares of purple fabric with each letter.

Altogether, you should receive enough blocks to make a purple charm quilt if no one breaks the chain! It will be fun to see where all the squares come from, and what they’ll look like all put together!

Try to do this within one week of receiving your letter.

If you cannot participate, please return the squares and the letter to me, so that it will not break the chain."

So anyway, I'm looking for 4 people to send my squares to. If anyone's interested, shoot me an email:  designsbylaurajo {at} gmail {dot} com.

It should be fun, and it looks like it's pretty easy, since there's no piecing or actual making of anything required to participate :)

Thanks!
