The Colorist

I absolutely ADORE this quilt. Every time I quilt one I remember that I have the baby size sitting on a hanger in line waiting to be quilted for my baby....who is now almost 15 months old. Yep.

This quilt was sent to me by a gal who found me through Lizzy House, fabulous designer of beautiful fabric, prints, and quilt patterns (including this quilt pattern). Since I quilted the quilt on the pattern cover she asked me to do hers the same way. Her quilt was a little larger, but oh so beautiful! I did a few things differently on this one. I kept the quilted rings spaced the same: 1 inch apart in the outer ring, 1/2 inch apart in the center. But in each of the colored areas I quilted the back-and-forth pattern (vertical lines) I used a matching thread color. What this means is that in addition to having a color wheel on the front of the quilt, she also had one on the back (she backed it in a bleached white muslin). It looked REALLY cool. I wish I had taken a picture of the back. I totally forgot to do that before I packaged it up and sent it off, and I've been kicking myself ever since. But trust me, it was awesome.

Also, if you'll notice in the above picture, there is binding attached: She sent over all her scraps to have me make the binding, and I did the binding in a color wheel also, using the fabrics in the same order they were used in the outer color ring of the color wheel. It gave it a really neat look when it was finished.

I keep toying with different ways to quilt this quilt (on mine, which is still waiting), but I can't think of anything that would look cooler than the echoed rings. It just has an awesome look to it. What do you think? How would you want your color wheel quilted if you were to have one done?
