Vicki's Sampler Quilt

This quilt belongs to my mother-in-law. She brought it to me to have it quilted, and told me to just do whatever. She initially thought that maybe an all-over pattern or something would work, but I thought it needed something different in each block. She didn't care, one way or the other, and told me to just do my "thing."
It took me about a week to complete the quilting on this. Some of the pictures don't show off the details as much as I would've liked them to, so you may have to click on the picture to see a large image for some details to show up.

This block was one of her least favorite on the quilt. She didn't like the background fabric that was paired with it, because it made the rest of the block, which was supposed to stand out, blend in. I cut an extra piece of batting and placed it behind the pieced part of the block, then quilted feathers on it. In the background I quilted back and forth curves.

In these two blocks I oultined in the ditch. The blue star block I did a ribbon in the background. In the red block I did flowers in each of the dark maroon pieces, leaving the star in the center open. In the background I quilted a ribboned meander.

In this little strip I left the background alone, but quilted flowers in the blocks.
I quilted feathers in the center of this block, and the center of the corner stars. I stitched in the ditch around everything else. In the background I quilted the back and forth ribbon-like curves.

In the block on the back I oultined everything in the ditch and quilted a ribboned meander in the background. In the block on the right I quilted a flower on the whole block.

This block was one of my favorites to do. I quilted a circle feather wreath on the block and did a tight meander in the background.

This block I quilted a flower in the center pink square, turning the triangle points around it into leaves. In the background traingles I did more feathers.

In these blocks (there were 4 of them, but I only got 2 1/2 for the picture) I quilted feathers.

In this block I quilted in the ditch around the whole block. I quilted a curved in square in the center green square. In the background I did loops varying in size. There was an extra little strip of fabric at the bottom of the block that I quilted the feather in.

In the border I quilted a long, continuous feather, following the flow of the pieced border with the spine of the feather. In the rest of the border I did pebbling, so that the feather would stand out more.
This is a picture of the back. You can really see the border detail a lot better here. I loved the way the quilt looked at the end, and Vicki was really happy with it too. She wanted to show it in the Salem Days Quilt Show, so if you're in the area, feel free to stop by and see it on August 8th in Salem, Utah. There will be lots of great quilts there, too!

I used a whole wheat colored thread.

Wow that looks like it took you forever. Also, did you quilt that witch hat quilt at Gracie's? I need to know how to do those cute spiderwebs.

Thanks Molly! Yeah, it took a while.

And yes, I did the spiderwebs. It's actually pretty simple. You just do a cross and then another one at an angle. You can add in other lines at angles to make it more intricate if you want. Then you start in the middle and just spiral out.
